| Rocco Chiarella, Biography |
| Rocco was born in 1976 in Genoa, Italy and at 16 years old he started to take pictures. When he finished high school he decided to become a photographer. He left Italy to go to San Francisco, California to study photography. During his time there he worked as a camera assistant for a local documentary maker, in the Yosemite National Park of California. Through him, he started to learn about motion pictures. In the same year in the Yosemite Park, he met Ken Seng. Ken was a commercial director of photography in Chicago, working as a teacher at the Columbia College. He asked Rocco to join him in Chicago to help him with his work. There he started to study to become a director of photography, working on local sets. In the same year he started to work for a production House called Graphic Mass, as Production Assistant. In Graphic Mass he had the opportunity to learn the AVID system and started to work as AVID editor. When he returned to Milan he continued to work as an Avid editor. After a few months he had the opportunity to join J. Walter Thompson in Milan for a stage as producer in the TV department. Six months later he was given a full time contract by them. . Rocco worked in J. Walter Thompson for three years. In the course of those three years he made his first short film. The Agency's creatives were so pleased with the film that they gave him the opportunity to shoot his first commercial. This was the turning point when he decided to become a commercial director. One year later he had his first award in Cannes. From there has worked with some of the biggest production companies in Italy, Eastern Europe and Turkey. |
